What are radial conveying fans?

Share

It is actually difficult to imagine the contemporary industry without the use of conveying fans. These devices are commonly used in many fields of industry such as woodworking, metalwork, paper or plastic production or recycling plants and other. They are used for transporting powders, dusts and other dry bulk material through pipelines.

Conveying fans in dedusting installations

Conveying or extracting fans which convey dusted air are an indispensable component of dedusting installations. By creating underpressure or overpressure inside the pipelines, the dusty and polluted air is extracted from the production hall and delivered along the closed pipelines into a dust collector. Inside a dust collector the dirty air is filtrated, in other words the particles of dirt are separated from the air.

How to choose the right extraction fan?

When selecting an extraction fan the most important parameter to consider is its efficiency. We need to know how much air the fan is going to transport – this value is expressed in m3/h. Another crucial parameter to establish is the resistance created by the pipelines and machines connected to the dedusting system (pressure loss expressed in Pa). This data helps to establish the right power of the fan so an adequate air flow inside the pipelines is ensured. It is especially important nowadays when the energy costs are hitting their records.

Conveying fans and explosive dusts

When working with dusts, one needs to consider their explosivity parameter as fans used in explosion risk atmospheres must be ATEX compliant (intrinsically safe and with adequate protection level for a given ATEX zone). And since explosion risk atmospheres cannot be avoided in many plants, the explosion protection is an especially important criterion for selecting conveying fans.
